“Nothing so needs reforming as other people's habits.” ― Mark Twain

I'M NOT ASHAMED

Repetition and consistency give meaning to my life. I feel safe, and I feel the most productive when these two elements are present in my day. Habits are some of my most cherish moments in life. I believe that habits, whether they are the ones that serve me well, or the ones than make me kick myself, are more than simple routines. They are the unseen foundation of what makes me who I am. I am, indeed, a creature of habit, and I am not ashamed of it.

Even if I don't noticed, my days are choreographed by a dance of automatic behaviors. From the moment I roll out of bed to brewed coffee, to the way I brush my teeth right before I go to sleep. I know that having a daily routine, that allows me to accomplish essential tasks without wasting much energy, could be a blessing and a course. For one, it frees my mind for unforeseen problems, on the other hand, it means that perhaps I'm not being fully aware of small, but important moments in life that will disappear forever in time and space.

AS SEASONS DO

I cannot worry about everything now, can I?, All I know is that I will continue embracing habits, occasionally, replacing the good with the bad. Changing them with the passing of time, as seasons do. A minor indulgence now and then never kill anybody, unless of course it evolve somehow, into being an extreme, self-destructive pattern.

When it comes to learning music, good habits are essential in the outcome of our attempt. The daily twenty-minute practice might feel insignificant or boring while doing it, especially when Netflix is calling your name. Yet, the consistency of our behaviors adds up. Habits mold everything. With music, habits matter more than motivation, because, they work no matter how we feel inside. That seems harsh, because after all, most people sign up for lessons for the "fun" of it. But what happens when is not fun anymore?.

SIMPLE DO-RE-MI

As I sat at the piano, searching for inspiration, I found myself thinking about how good habits are similar to musical themes. Like "good habits", melodies and harmonies start simple, almost unnoticeable, yet, through repetition and gentle variation, they develop into something meaningful. A simple do re mi, can blossom into a complex musical statement.

It's fascinating how music and habits exist in time. A single musical note by itself means little_ it is the relation between notes, the way they move from one to another, that creates enjoyable melodies. Habits work the same way. It is not the single, isolated action that transforms us, but the accumulation of consistent moments over weeks, months, and years.

HABITS AND MELODIES

In composing this piece, I wanted to highlight the closed resemble that exist between good habits and music melodies. This is a piece that is inviting the listener to ponder on the fact that melodies and people's character emerge from constraint and repetition, not from complete unrestrained freedom. I'm inviting you to remember, that music can help making sense of the world.

There's a number of parallels between music and my life. As a composer, I have to commit to key and time signature, or a motif, these boundaries lead to creativity. Whereas, in my daily life, I have to choose define patterns and by adhering to them, I create a space to be creative just as well.

STRANGE BEAUTY

As you listen to my composition that I have named: Strange Beauty, think about the beautiful habits in your own life_ those consistent choices that create the fundamental melody of who you are. You may also embrace new habits that you know will enhance your existence.

The strange beauty of daily habits. These small, consistent moments create a kind of music in my life, a steady rhythm that secures and guides my day to be as enjoyable as possible. Boring?, not to me, not always anyway. And if it does, I have choices of which I can stir a sense of adventure in my life.
